Easter At Beaverdale Park

It's the Easter egg hunt down at Beaverdale Park
With activities scheduled from dawn until dark--
Would you like to join in on the fun? On your mark,
Set, and go!
To and fro!
And explosion of children cascades on the lawn
They are searching for eggs, hither, thither, and yon;
The older kids soon reach the forest, and on
Down below!
There they go!

(chorus)
The sun's shining brightly, the sky is so blue
A beautiful day, not a cloud is in view
The flowers are blooming, the birds are in song
And nothing at all could go wrong...

And it's all so idyllic, it feels like a dream
But things aren't exactly the way that they seem--
From down near the river, a teenager's scream
Full of dread
Fills your head
While searching along on the leaf-covered ground
It wasn't an egg, but a body they found
It was still, it was cold, and it made not a sound
He was dead
Cold and dead

(chorus)

The police quickly came, and they saw on inspection
This Easter would not bring a new resurrection--
They roped off the park, for the families' protection
"Don't go
Down below"
The excitement the day held, it quickly had flagged
As the victim's remains were collected and bagged
And were brought to the morgue, with his toe duly tagged
With "John Doe"
They don't know

(chorus)

Easter is better with blue skies and sun
With chocolates and eggs, and a whole lot of fun,
Not the death of a man, who was somebody's son
Who will cry
Asking "why?"
Easter's important, but this is the thing--
Not for death on a cross, but the coming of Spring
So the flowers can bloom, and the birds can all sing
In the sky
As they fly

(chorus)

From KCCI in Des Moines, the story of an Easter-egg hunt with an unexpected find. Personally, I think Easter is a much better holiday when it has nothing to do with anyone's death. (video at link, and some rather tasteless commentary on the story, unless the editors remove it.)

For some reason, I am reminded of this beautiful song:

This kook hit my blog (who almost nobody reads) with the same blather. Someone is seriously off their meds.

History lesson, DM and Tom:

Easter is exactly about what Cuttlefish said: Spring (and fucking).

Eostre (pronounced Easter), was the pagan god of firtility (hence the eggs and rabbit symbols we still use today). This was typically celebrated, unsurprisingly, around this same time of year at the Spring Equinox. And, being the god of firtility, it wasn't uncommon that this was celebrated with food, sex, and orgies.

(P.S. This is very similar to the Christmas time of year which hijacked the winter solstice celebration of pagans as well.)

If you think it's antagonizing, offensive, blasphemy, and/or "blather" then just go away. If you can't handle the fact that Easter is really about spring and fucking, rather than nailing a guy to a couple of sticks, then you can feel free to not come back to his blog.

I am all for Spring and Fucking! I wasn't talking about Cuttlefish's wonderful mastery of the word.

Cuttlefish removed the kook's (DM's) comment which I've seen before almost character for character. He can remove mine as well since the kook is gone.

Oops, spoke too soon. DM, if you don't like it, go away. Go sit on a hilltop and wait for the rapture. You'll be fine. Don't worry about the rest of us.

Sorry, didn't mean to cause confusion. DM is so cute this way, and it takes so little time, that I have no problems letting him post his silliness, and then deleting it. Doesn't bother me, and keeps him away from more important targets. If I can keep him wasting his time here, it's a public service.

I try to leave a "comment deleted" trail if someone has already referred to it, but otherwise (like roughly a dozen times already today) I just disappear his cut-and-paste job.

So did the guy commit suicide knowing that there would be an Easter egg hunt the next morning? What a sick, but admittedly intriguing, idea.

Perhaps he figured, it being Easter and all, that he wouldn't be dead for more than just the weekend...
