International Cephalopod Appreciation and Awareness Day!

Cephalopodcast has some suggestions:

Top 10 Things You Can Do on Cephalopod Appreciation Day

1-- Make a Cephalopod
hansigurumi, home of peculiar knitted cephalopods and other original designs
Papercraft Flying Squid

2-- Wear a Cephalopod
Buy a plush squid hat
Make a quick squid costume using office supplies
.
.
.

Oops--their links did not work here. Oh well, you'll have to click through for the links, and for the rest of the top ten list!

I will suggest an 11th: Follow a cephalopod. In particular, follow a cuttlefish; even more specifically, follow a Digital Cuttlefish!

(I must admit, I really have no idea what all this "following" means, but I have noticed a handful of "followers" when I log on to blogger.com, and I figure I might as well make it easier for people to do this if it is something they are interested in.)

You may find it funny, you may find it odd
To follow a virtual cephalopod
But click if you wish, and follow me, follow,
For all of the verse (and much more) you can swallow!
If you want to sign up, or just think that you might,
The link's over there, just a bit to the right.

Being the obsessive type (what, really? NO! we couldn't tell!), I would love to see as many followers as possible. I don't know why. But if you like what you read here, or if you are angry and insulted by what you read here, or you just feel like clicking a link, sign up, tell your friends, tell your neighbors, tell your pets, tell your enemies (and their pets, too), and make me regret the day I even considered putting up a followers list!

I don't know about this Following thing, either! Likewise being kind of an OCD person, I think I would feel pressured if the Following thing is anything like Google Reader, which I had to discontinue as it seemed to me to be BURYING ME IN THINGS TO DO, AIEEEE!!!

Be careful, though. I wanted Followers, and all I got was drive-by trolls.

P-Skep, I have no investment in this, nor knowledge of what it means. If a follower wishes to tell us, that is great, but I am certainly not gonna push anybody. I just saw that I had a few, and thought I'd make it easier.

Jessa--thanks for the advice. Like I said, I have no investment in this, and can just as easily take the feature away. I did it in the hopes that it would make something that people wanted to do a little easier for them. If that is not the case, it won't bother me.

I found the key to using Google Reader is to not be afraid of the "Mark all items as Read" button - you just can't keep up with all the stuff on the web.

But I'm still trying to figure out how to follow the huge number of comments on popular blogs like PZ's.

Anyway, I became a Cuttlefish follower...I've no idea what it will do for me (or for DC), but at least I get a tiny, tiny picture on the blog page. Gotta love that :)

Follow? How? I'm staying up too late, I think that's my problem... but you know I follow you too much as it is. :)
